John Bullock, Melksham

John Bullock, Melksham

This is a pretty mahogany antique longcase clock by John Bullock of Melksham dating from around 1818.

The 12″ painted dial has a rocking ship automaton feature in the arch, and also a seconds dial and calendar.

The dial is quite rare being by Hartley Burgess who appeared in directories btween 1808 and 1818.

The case is of typical West Country style with veneers of good colour and inlays.

On the rear of the case is inscribed, probably by the casemaker, “Mr Bullock, clock and watchmaker Melksham”.

The eight-day movement strikes the hours on a bell. The overall height is 7’4″.
