Alfred King, Chippenham

Alfred King was born in Chippenham in 1792, the son of Stephen who was also a clockmaker.

From 1839 to 1859 he was listed in directories as a “Watch and Clockmaker Jeweller and Silversmith” and his business was in the Market Place next to the Bear Hotel.

He died in 1881.

This drop dial wall clock has a 12″ convex white dial and steel hands.

The rich coloured mahogany case has inlaid motifs and brass stringing, and side and bottom access doors.

The brass fusee movement is of eight day duration.

The overall height is 24″.
